This Time Last Year... 10K Race Review
I only recently really started blogging about the running portion of my life.
This post from February pretty much explains why I didn't, but it's part of my life, and a way to connect with others who are passionate about the same thing. And so I write about it!
I haven't written about my races from last year, since it's been about a year I think it's time to get them down, for the record!
Last year for the 4th of July my kids and I took my mom up to Malad, ID to be with my sister-in-law's family. We had SO much fun! Malad is still small town! The whole town played at the park and watched 'Malad Idol' contestants compete! There was a parade, fireworks, baseball tournaments, so much to do! We had so much fun!
On a whim I decided to run the 10k that they do the morning of the 4th. Collette's SIL and nephew ran it, someone runs it every year. I decided to do it with them! We got up early and walked down to the starting line. It was a small race. They did 10k, 5k and 1 mile, and a walk I think. There weren't very many of us that ran the 10k. I was in my taper mode, prepping for the marathon, so this was a good push/workout for the day!
I was a little nervous about the course, because I'm not from this area and my only guide was arrows spray painted on the road! There was one point that I was running all over the street looking for my next arrow! I'm sure that ate some time! I was nervous about not making it back!
Tate and I started together, then I pushed ahead at about mile 2. The guy who won was who I was chasing. I couldn't catch back up to him, oh well!
I ran past my cute family, and extended family, the Daniels house is right on the race course. They all got to cheer for me just after jumping out of bed! It was fabulous!
I was the first woman finisher... a first, and I'm sure a last!!! It doesn't matter that it was a small race, I was the first woman finisher... go me!!! I came in second overall.
I got some Gatorade and a certificate for a free Snowie and meal at the park. My first prizes! I was so proud! My finish time was 45:04 (7:16). That may be a PR... I don't know when else I've raced a 10K... well I'll be... I need to add that on my 'race tab'!
I even made the paper!!! They totally took my photo! Love Malad! I'd love to be there again this 4th of July, we had so much fun!
What are you doing for the 4th this year? Any races?
I'll be doing my last long training run, before I taper, in preparation for the Deseret News Marathon, which I'll be running in a few weeks.
I'll recap that next week so come back. I've certainly learned some lessons that I hope to improve with this year.
