5 Things Friday - laughing, do better, improving
Welcome to Five Things Friday.
Friday's here are dedicated to keeping a record, in the tiniest of snippets, if need be.
It seems the big moments hold place quite easily, it's the little everyday things that slip right out of memory, unless they are recorded somehow.
I love to write, to journal. I always have. Do you?
If you struggle with what to write I invite you to join in. Use these prompts to tell and record your own life story.
5 Things
that made me laugh this week:
- E telling me I needed to carry his toy in from the car. 'You brought it out mom, you need to take it in!' Stinker! That is the last time I run to get a toy for him to play with in the car! :)
- Watching G make his final shot, that beat his dad! They are having their own one on one basketball tournament. G is kicking his dads booty! Hilarious!
- Sitting on the couch with my man, reliving Ben Stiller's '
' collection!
- Finally getting Florence's scanner/printer working... by plugging it in. Heavens I'm not sure I'm much of a help when I don't think to do that
first
!
- My daughter coming down
again
, after bedtime, to ask if she can wear one of my shirts. (This partly makes me cry too.) It's like she has forgotten she has her own stuff now! The only closet she wants to look through is mine!!!
5 things
I want to do better at this time:
- Calling my mom and sister. At least my mom calls me, she's awesome. My sister and I both stink at calling each other, so we never talk, and we are BFF's! I suck!
- Study my scriptures. I have fallen far from my habit of daily scripture study. Don't love that.
- Organizing my papers. Creative papers, work papers, garbage papers, kids papers... I need a better system because they often hang out in a pile, or two, or three, on my desk.
- Blogging my photography. I'm considering just rolling it all into this one blog, so I'm sure to document and show off the stuff I'm doing.
- Work on One Little Word. Last month (March) I had an issue downloading the printable for this project, then this month (April) it just got away from me. Now it's May 1 and I'm 3 prompts behind. Next week I want to get myself caught up and refocus on my word PURPOSE.
5 things
I have recently improved on:
- Not spending money! We changed around our budget when we went under contract to buy our home. I normally have budget for me, kids, home, etc. We eliminated all 'budget' and went to no spending unless it's a
need
. My agreement was to talk about family needs
before
I buy, and to hold off on all our
wants
until we set up our new budget with the new house. I have been amazing, showing self control like nobody's biz! Really. I'm not sure if I have ever behaved this way. I'm impressed with myself.
- Eliminating night eating. A while ago I told myself I wanted to be 5 lbs lighter by the time I ran this race (tomorrow). The easiest way to do that was to break my habit of late night eating. I eat well during the day, both healthy and moderately. Night time is where I've got a bad habit. I have improved! I let myself eat and watch Netflix one night a week! And, my reward is 5 lbs off!
- Keeping my house tidy. It helps with less stuff! Really. It has made me think I need to do some editing down when we move.
- Taking photos of my family. This was an area I've wanted to refocus my 'purpose' this year. More of my own memories to keep.
- Speed. Finally I feel like my running pace is back to 'normal'. It feels like it has taken longer this spring, but the switch has finally flipped.
Family Happenings:
- There has been some much needed playing outside, all evening long!
- I only prepared 2 real dinners this week. I need to get the May menu done. I don't cook unless I do!
- Had the Wade's over Sunday night! Very fun!
- E twisted his ankle Sunday, kept him home on Monday. He couldn't walk on it.
- E delivered MOW with me, we had lunch, he got over his fear and tried walking on his hurt ankle. It was better!
- G and M have been playing 1 on 1. They have a tournament going. G is winning!
- G has always been diligent practicing his basketball shooting. This year he looks like he is a natural. His shot has improved and he looks like a natural.
- M and I took O for his own little bike ride around the neighborhood. He was in heaven! He loves being on his bike.
- M started playing raquet ball with R.
- I went to help Karen from MOW with some paperwork, then had a lunch visit with F.
- Had a much needed 'talk' session with Q and G.
- Tonight I meet with a bride for an August wedding.
What are your 5 things? I'd love to see what your lists say!
