Sometimes we are just too close to things to really see clearly.

Tonight I was with a good friend. We are collaborating, writing music! I've done a little before, of which, very few people know anything about because, well, I was just trying my hand at it. I enjoy writing and want to give it another shot. I found this friend for a purpose and we'll try it together.

My post tonight, though, isn't about me. Tonight I realized something. I have been surrounded, for my life, by really talented people; people who are special, or as my dad would say have “….a gift”. It isn't until I've had some space, some "distance", that I've realized it.

Writing music, good music, that touches the heart, that soothes the soul, that connects you, can't come out of all people. It is a gift, a talent.

So much of my life has been spent looking at my siblings and downplaying such talent, because it was always floating around me. It never seemed like anything ALL people couldn’t do. Can't everyone write a song? I know the answer is no. I haven't been SO naive my whole life, but like I said, sometimes we are too close to really see things.

I appreciate my siblings; I recognize their talent and God-given gifts. You are wonderful at what you do. I'm glad I have been able to taste of your gifts and be inspired by your talent.

*note for the readers who aren't familiar with my family* I am about the only one in the family who doesn't play an instrument and frequently write a little ditty of my own! All of my siblings are "musically inclined". Two of my siblings have CD's out and the rest write and share their songs at their own leisure. I truly am surrounded by talented people!
