Ponderize Boards
How cute is this board?
Here are a couple other variations.
They are super easy to make, it stands on it's own, and could be used for notes, a photo, a quote, anything really!
At the last General Conference of the LDS church Devin G. Durrant spoke about really thinking or pondering on the scriptures. He invited us to ponderize a scripture each week. He admits ponderize is a made up word, but it is the mix of extended pondering as well as memorization of a scripture.
I wanted to create a place for me to put my scripture each week. A place where I can see it often to really accomplish this. I ended up making a couple for myself then had the bright idea to share this craft with the women in my congregation. We made them last week.
They are so very easy to make!
I invite you to make one, put it in a place where you can see it, and clip a scripture, uplifting quote or goal on there! There is power in seeing these words each day.
I started with a 2x4 of pine.
This board was already painted with chalkboard paint.
I taped stripes on there with washi tape, painted the exposed surface with white chalk paint, waited for it to dry, then peeled off the washi tape.
Seriously, easy!
The hardest part was screwing in the bulldog clip... which isn't even hard!
You could pre drill a hole, but the screw doesn't need to be very long (1/4 inch) so, even w/o pre drilling you would be fine. I did not pre drill.
I just went in from an angle between the clips.
Easy peasy right?
So, that is a painted version.
You could also paint the back, sides and front edges of your board and use a cute paper to cover the board. Use Mod Podge to do that... of course!
I also did a version with 'stained' wood, although I didn't have any stain on me, we threw it all out when we moved.
Did you know you can use brown paint, watered down, to 'stain' your wood?
That is what I did here... (I know that paint looks like poop!)
I let that dry, then Mod Podged a cute paper onto the board. I added my clip, and that was that.
This board will hang in my office. I bought it at Hobby Lobby on clearance. It will not free stand, but that is just fine! I just added my bulldog clip and this baby was ready to rock!
A couple of things to note...
- I did a couple of boards in the skinny version. I don't like them as much. I prefer the 2x4 so you can see the cute design you worked so hard on!
- Instead of ripping off a new paper each week, I bought a notepad and I clip it upside down. You can keep all of your papers attached this way, to keep track of all the things you will ponderize!
- I got the bulldog clips HERE
- I got all of the notepads at Walmart
We had a great time putting these together as a group!
It is an easy craft that will hopefully be a cute way to see scriptures everyday!
