Flashback... October Storm Anniversary
I have been feeling the need to keep our memories better, to tell our story, to write more often.
I started this blog in 2005 and have only printed off that 2005 book.
I am going to get the rest of these years into books so we can all enjoy them.
I was going through 2006, to get it ready for print and came across this post: We Have Power... October Storm
Just this week is the nine year anniversary of when this crazy storm hit.
I never posted our photos from that event... I am today.
Let's remember just how powerful and destructive snow can be, when it hits prior to it's rightful season!
We started seeing some snow on October 12. I even let Q go outside to see it!
When we woke up on the 13 this is what we saw.
These next two views are looking down my street both ways.
It should have looked something like this instead...
Seeing these images remind me of a 'teamwork' picture I used to have.
It said: Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together.
The trees, all of the trees, just broke...
Memories from that event include:
- All 4 of us snuggling in bed, layered up and under the duvet to keep warm.
- 3 days without power.
- Driving to see the Chamberlains (after the drive ban was lifted), to see that they were on their way to us!
- Going to the church house to be together with others w/o power.
- Our bishop lending us his generator, to pump the water out of our basement.
- Moving food to coolers, packing them with snow.
- The night the other side of the street got power... and we didn't. Their lights seemed so bright to our dark house. And the neighbor who went full fledged with his Halloween blow up decor, and lights... it just felt like salt in the wound of no power! :)
- Driving up to Lockport for food. Once we got out of the Amherst bubble you could really see that indeed it was a concentrated area of snow dump. So strange to be there, the sun was shining, there was no snow! Then we drove back to our reality!
- It is so great to live in a community where people are so willing to help each other. Blessed!
The forecast shows some snow in the south this weekend.
Crazy! But, not completely out of the ordinary for October, as you can see.
It has been a gorgeous summer that has lasted and lasted. The leaves are in full glory this year, showing their colors bright.
I just want it to keep going! I love fall.
