Easy Blocks Valentine Decor
Next week we are having a RS church activity.
We are creating together. This is one of the items we'll be creating, these cute Valentine blocks.
I made some samples for us and it felt so good to sit down and create!
I'll show you how I did these, but first, here is the poster I made to advertise for our night. I want to point out the quote on here by Elder Uchtdorf. Beyond these words he goes on to say that the things we create that are satisfying go beyond food or crafts, that laughter, friendships where there were none before, is a form of creation, which is very satisfying. So, we will get together as women to feed our souls as we mold something from nothing.
Ok, here is what these three blocks end up looking like. They are super cute, way easy, and can be put just about anywhere to add a little bit of 'festive' to your life!
I started with a raw block of pine, which is super cheap. I have a ton of it. A long time ago I bought a big long board and cut it into a ton of pieces all at once.
If you don't have wood blocks, this idea can be put onto a small canvas, to hang on your wall. You could put it on one of those wooden plaques you get at the craft store, many options!
I sanded my wood so it was nice and smooth, then painted it all white.
Next I cut some paper about the size of my wood block (4x3 inch).
I folded that in half and drew half a heart. Remember doing this in first grade?!
Next I cut my heart out and opened it up.
I did that 3 times so I could make 3 different types of hearts.
This first one I covered with a piece of burlap.
I glued the heart with ModPodge, lay the burlap down, let it dry for a minute, then went over the top of the burlap again.
My second heart I put glue all over the heart then started laying ribbon down, in strips, over the glue. I suggest choosing your ribbon prior to starting this project! You don't need much, it's a great way to use your scraps.
The last heart I put glue on, then covered with fabric.
I let all of them dry, then turned them over and cut out around my hearts.
Here they all are.
Next I sanded around my wooden blocks, to distress them a little, then used hot glue to attach my hearts.
I added a jute bow to this heart, to match the primitive feel.
The burlap heart got some bakers twine around it. I glued it in discreet spots so the twine wouldn't move.
In addition I painted these 2x2 blocks, painted them white, and just added stickers to them.
I suggest going over those with ModPodge too, to protect them.
Here is how they each turned out!
So cute! So easy!
Which is your favorite?
Here they all are together...
And here is this cute one grouped with a Valentine photo.
