We started the day with yard work. Our poor yard has needed some TLC. It has been lingering at the bottom of the priority list! We... or should I say... Matt worked really hard cutting hedges, mowing the lawn, fertilizing and the like!

I went to the store in search of some fireworks... even just sparklers... for the kids. I've been so excited to celebrate this holiday with my kids. I look forward to traditions. I look forward to instilling a sense of reverence and appreciation for this nation, patriotism. That doesn't ALL come with fireworks, but it's a start.

After looking at a few places I finally asked and found out that fireworks are actually illegal in NY State! What the crap is that? Illegal? I can see them being illegal in a high fire-risk state like, um, UT but NY State? I don't get it! There is some weird stuff like that here! So, not even a sparkler for my kids to celebrate with!

In the afternoon we went to a friend's house to go swimming and bb-q. It was sort of a flop and Matt had a large headache from being in the sun all morning. We came home and I played outside with the kids until sunset.

We were able to watch the fireworks, put on by the country club, from our deck. The kids loved it! They were both in awe. Next year I'd like to hit the big show at UB. I would like to make that a tradition.

It was a good day. A day to be together as a family, to be together with friends, to remember the past, to appreciate our future, to love the nation we live in. It was a good day.
